Great Campbell’s Adverts
2009 July 17
Campbell’s, makers of canned soup & stew have had some great advertisments on TV lately. The first one for their “Fully Loaded Pasta & Meatballs” is a humorous rip off of the old Solo soft drink commercial from 1990. Watch the Solo ad first
Their new soup advert reflects an old Aussie beer ad.
To explain the context; I dunno about the terminology in other countries but here in Australia (and Tasmania) a can of beer is referred to as a “Tinnie/Tinny” as in a Tin of beer. So after a hard days work there is nothing more refreshing than a Cold Tinnie.
Hence they refer to the refreshingness (is that a real word?) of a warm tin of soup on a cold day

Tony, very clever. Here in CA, the last thing we want this time of year is soup! LOL I think that one guy has been taking some lessons from Flat Tony! LOL Cool videos! Thanks!
Funny adverts. It’s interesting to see the way the ad execs tailor the commercials to their regional audiences.
I like the cleverness of them, so many ads are orten more entertaining than the actual TV show itself
That was very interesting. How did you notice it? I don’t know, I can always eat soup. I eat it almost everyday for lunch. Do you drink beer warm though?? There is no way I could do that. I love it almost frozen.
How did I notice it? I’m not sure what you mean, but they are regularly on TV here. The Solo ad from years ago was almost a national icon, so when the Fully Loaded ad came on I remembered the Solo ad from way back then. Warm beer, yuk no way I like it freezing cold. Apparently in England they serve it at room temperature, I’m not sure if that is fact or fallacy though. Maybe S. Le can shed some light on the matter
That’s what I meant. If you remembered one from long ago. Good memory. My oldest son is like that. He has a memory for faces, jingles and you name it. If I ever want to remember something, I call him.
A good British ale or stout, served room temperature, is dee-lish! But warm lager, nah-ah.
Thanks for the social studies lesson; now I know about tinnies.
you’re welcome
I liked the kayakers going down the hill — it reminded me of the scene in “Romancing the Stone” where Kathleen Turner and Michael Douglas go down the slide n the jungle. Well, except that Kathleen Turner wasn’t there.
What an action packed movie that was they musta had great fun making it
